Coaching Staff

Assistant Coach & Camp Director Joe Steinkamp

Joe Steinkamp is entering his sixth season on the Dutch staff and his fourth year as the top varsity assistant. A 2003 Central graduate, he was a two-time letterwinner and the team co-captain in 2002-03. He spent the 2003-04 year as a graduate assistant women's basketball coach at Loras College while pursuing a master's degree. He was Central's men's junior varsity coach in 2004-05 and a volunteer assistant at Lewis University ( Ill. ) in 2005-06 before returning to Central as JV coach for 2006-07.


Assistant Coach Chris Pierson

Chris Pierson is entering his third season as assistant men’s basketball coach at Central, working with the junior varsity.

An honors graduate from William Penn University, Pierson received NAIA all-academic honors as a golfer for the Statesmen and was a junior golf instructor in Oskaloosa. He spent a year as co-head coach of the William Penn men’s junior varsity basketball squad.

Assistant Coach Brandon Townsend

Brandon Townsend is entering his third sesaon as assistant men's basketball coach at Central, working primarily with the junior varsity.

Townsend is also in his third year as an assistant baseball coach at Central, serving as pitching coach.

Townsend spent the 2006-07 year as head pitching coach, recruiting coordinator and junior varsity coach at North Central College ( Ill. ) after a year as pitching coach and assistant recruiting coordinator at North Park College ( Ill. ). He is a 2005 graduate of North Central where he was a two-year team captain. He also has experience as a youth league coach and as a private pitching instructor.

In 2009, Townsend coached a summer wood-bat league team to the ABCCL title in New Jersey.

Townsend received a master's degree in athletic administration from California Univ. (Pa.).


The camp directors are joined by outstanding college and high school coaches at all levels, and current and former Div. I, II and III college players. Participants are assured of receiving individual attention throughout the camp. The staff also includes an athletic trainer.
